Activity 23. Matching Goals and Strategies: Trenton's Case

Trenton's DATA goal states:

D: If we teach Trenton to set goals and self-monitor,

A: he will reduce the number of times he disrupts the class and increase his time on task.

T: In four weeks,

A: he will reduce his class disturbances from an average of five times to two times per class. He will also increase his time on task from an average of four minutes to six minutes.

Here is the list of ideas that team members wrote down from the story Trenton's teacher told. Which are the four most powerful ideas that match Trenton's DATA goal?

The teacher will

Track and chart how many disruptions he causes per period.

Seat Trenton away from his friends.

Have Trenton chart his own number of disruptions and minutes on task.

Use a token system to reward Trenton for staying in his seat.

Have him complete the work he doesn't finish in the library, where Mrs. Kelly can help him.

Have Trenton set his own goal for how long he will work on a given task without a break.

Send a daily report to his parents so they can reinforce the ideas of the plan.

Have Trenton keep a list of strategies that do and don't help.

Have the Title I tutor time the number of minutes Trenton stays on task.

Ask Trenton how he is doing on his goal and how he plans to improve tomorrow.
